Chandler Bigelow (1938-2010) was born and raised in the Boston area. In 1962, he had his first one-man show in New York City. The success of that show became the motivation for a long career as an impressionistic landscape painter. As with so many artists before him, Chandler became captivated by the beauty and the light of the East End of Long Island. He found great joy in painting the favorite places he walked and sailed. His paintings are visual depictions of nature's pastoral qualities. Chandler's style was his own; his canvases seem to be sparse in detail. However, it's only after the viewer becomes involved in the paintings that all of the detail becomes apparent. Until that time, only a mood is felt, which in itself is mesmerizing and thought-provoking.
