This is 8x8 encaustic is from Erin Rigney's shellscape series. Erin finds shells on our beaches and translates the movement and color ways found within the shells into these larger scale seascapes.
Encaustic is a technique that involves using heated beeswax to which colored pigments have been added. Erin is able to capture the essence of a shell perfectly by using this special medium.

“The gift of this medium for me is presence. When I am fully present in the creation process these materials speak to me in a way that invites me in, to go past my comfort zone of knowing, to stay curious and to listen to the elements and hear when a piece tells me it is complete. It's a natural ebb and flow when I listen deeply and collaborate with the elements. The more I give myself over to Spirit, the more it flows through me into my creations. It feels as though all the art mediums I have ever used have led me to this most fantastic medium that I was born to use. Each day I paint, I ask these natural elements to bring the love, peace, and tranquility, I feel in creating, into the homes and lives of those who experience and live with my work. It is a blessing and honor to be a part of bringing the magic around us to life for all to see. There is a divine hand directing the final piece that I trust entirely. I am merely a conduit in bringing these creations to life.” ~ Erin Rigney
